Building and maintaining an opt-in subscriber list is vital to consistent profitability so you definitely want to make it a big focus in your marketing.
Here are 3 keys to help you get rolling:
1. Make sure you’re focusing on only attracting subscribers from your target market. No matter how great your content or how well you treat your subscribers, if they aren’t interested in what you have to offer you’ll lose them. List quantity is not as important as list quality…
2. Start a dialog with your subscribers. Members of your list know what they want, and if you ask them they’ll tell you. Then just give it to them. If it’s what they want, they’ll be happy and okay with you promoting some stuff you get paid on. But if you’re just guessing or assuming what they want, sometimes you’ll be wrong. And that’s when you lose people.
3. Create a rewards or retention program. Tell your subscribers when they signup, that they get increased benefits or bonuses the longer they’re your subscriber. And it’s most effective if you can be specific about at least some of what they’ll get. It will make them think twice before unsubscribing.
Remember, no matter what you do you’ll have some attrition from your list. That’s unavoidable. The real trick is to both build it fast enough and also retain as many members as you can, so over time your list just keeps growing.
