Building an Internet business can be confusing, especially with the constant flow of new products and new marketing tools. Here’s a simple 4-point plan that works–it always has and it always will.
1. Build your business in a niche or with a focus that you love and have a competitive advantage in instead of chasing the money. When you bring something to the table that others cannot easily duplicate–like experience, skills, or knowledge–you can carve out your market space and have some protection against competition.
2. Know your customer. Open a dialog with your prospects and customers to learn as much about them as you can–what their goals are, what their fears are, typical demographics and whatever else you can. The more you know about them, the better you can provide products and services that fit their needs.
3. Build your brand. Think about what it is that makes you special and able to serve your customers’ needs better than anyone else, then build your entire business around that. You want to own mental real estate in your customers’ minds that makes them think of you when they think about your niche. If you do a little of everything, you won’t be remembered at that leaves you vulnerable.
4. Build relationships with marketers that target the same niche. They are your potential joint venture partners and by helping them promote and building relationships with them, you can get them to promote for you. There is no faster way of building your sales and profits than by having JVs promote for you. Focus on doing those 4 things and you’ll make it.
The important thing to remember about the Internet marketing industry is that the only constant is change. If you look at the industry 3 years ago it’s very different than it is now. And no doubt in 3 more years it will be changed again. So you can’t build a sustainable business with tactics–they may work now but not in the future. Build your business on the fundamental of having something unique to offer and putting your customers’ needs in front of making money, and you’re on the right track.
Make it happen…
